Student
This category is open to all those enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. Student members pay a flat rate of $45 per membership year. Student memberships can be renewed for up to 10 years.
Professional - Applied Religious Studies
This category is for those with employment outside of teaching of the academic study of religion or theology.
Professional - Part-Time Contingent
This category is for those who are full-time but not tenure-track.
Professional - Full-Time Contingent
This category is for those who are compensated on a per-course or hourly basis, and are part-time and not tenure-track.
Retired
This category is open to any individual who is retired from one’s institution or place of employment.
Special International
International scholars working or residing outside those countries designated as high income by the World Bank may take advantage of a discounted rate of $15 per calendar year for membership, plus international postage. Members from the following countries are not eligible: United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Journal of the American Academy of Religion (JAAR)
As part of a Green Initiative, beginning in 2019 there will be a $25 charge to receive 4 physical copies of JAAR. All members will still receive digital access to JAAR.
How to Join or Renew Membership in the AAR
There are three convenient ways to join or renew your membership:

Join or Renew Online
You enter all your demographic and payment information using AAR’s secure website. This is the most efficient and sustainable method of joining or renewing since it is paperless and requires less staff time to process.
Print a Membership Form 
You can print a membership form from the website, complete and return it with payment via postal mail or fax it to 1-404-727-7959. Please do not e-mail membership forms with payment information. In addition to credit cards, we accept money orders and checks.
Over the phone
