2020 Annual Meeting

Your AAR staff continues to work toward holding the Annual Meeting in Boston, Nov. 21-24, 2020. We are aware of the uncertainty and contradictory projections related to the COVID-19 pandemic and with health and safety as a priority, we will continue monitoring the guidance of governments and health experts as we plan and make decisions. Should any changes need to be made related to the 2020 Annual Meeting, we will promptly notify you.

2020 Regional Meetings

Open Registration:

All remaining regional meetings for 2020 have been canceled

Religion and the Arts Award Jury

Charge:  To select the winner of the Religion and the Arts Award.

Composition:  Five members.

Terms of Office:  Four years, non-renewable.

Meetings Schedule:

  • One in-person meeting at the Annual Meeting in November.
  • Virtual meetings via Zoom in Summer and Fall.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Members of the Religion and the Arts Award Jury are expected to participate in the following:

  • Religion and the Arts Award program - Jury members are responsible for the annual review of nominations and selection of the recipient. They are also responsible for first contact(s) with the winner and ensuring the winner will be able to participate in that year’s Annual Meeting.
  • The jury strives to consider every medium of art as well as the variety of experience that different backgrounds can bring to a winner's artistic expression.
  • Special Topics Forum at the Annual Meeting in November: Conversation with the Religion and the Arts Award Winner.

Publications or other items:

  • News release announcing the Religion and the Arts Award winner, their accomplishments, and detailing how their work links religion and the arts, between mid and late summer.

Timeline of Activities:

  • The submission deadline for Religion and the Arts Award nominations is February 1. 
  • Generally, between March and April, the jury has approached the award winner and that person has agreed to be in attendance at that year's Annual Meeting in November.  The jury works with the award winner (and their team) on developing a presentation or conversation theme around the winner's work.
  • The Religion and the Arts Award winner is announced between mid and late summer on the AAR website and Member News e-bulletin.
