  1. Annual Meeting News

    • The Program Book is now online at http://www.aarweb.org/annualmeet/2006/pbook/.  The printed Program Books will be mailed in early September.  Make sure your address is listed correctly in the AAR membership directory before August 5 to ensure priority receipt of the Program Book.   To change this information, go to http://www.aarweb.org/membersonly/contact1.asp.  (You will need to log in to use this page, using your surname, "Gray," and member ID, "Z28679.")
    • AAR is pleased to have an especially strong program this year. Karen Armstrong, Tariq Ramadan, Madeleine Albright, and Karen McCarthy Brown will deliver plenary addresses. Other Program Highlights can be viewed at http://www.aarweb.org/annualmeet/2006/pbook/highlights.asp.
    • Tell Congress: On Monday morning of the Annual Meeting, join other AAR members going in delegations to Capitol Hill to meet with staff of their Congressional representatives to advocate federal funding for the academic study of religion. To participate, you must sign up by September 30. Go to http://www.aarsbl.org/annualmeet/2006/advocacy/.
    • The Employment Information Services Center is accepting preregistrations through October 23. Register early to receive full benefits. For more information, see http://www.aarweb.org/eis/.
    • CVs online! Beginning August 22, Openings advertisers and EIS employers will be able to view EIS candidate CVs online. Information about how to access the CVs will be posted on the EIS Web page (http://www.aarweb.org/eis/) in mid-August.
    • Cosponsor a Scholar: At the annual meeting in Washington, DC, the international focus is African contributions to the study of religion. We are soliciting partnerships with departments and institutions that can cosponsor an African scholar. Cosponsorship will allow your group to hear from one of these fine scholars while they are already in the United States to attend the Annual Meeting. To learn more about the benefits of cosponsorship, please contact the AAR office at AnnualMeeting@aarweb.org.

  1. De Gruyter publishers is offering AAR members free online access to all of its journals for a period of four months (September 1, 2006 to December 31, 2006). De Gruyter’s well-respected journals in religious studies include the Journal of Ancient Christianity, Zeitschrift für die Alttestamentlich Wissenschaft (articles in English, German, and French), and Zeitschrift für die Neutestamentlich Wissenschaft (articles in English, German, and French). De Gruyter’s journals in classical and ancient Near Eastern studies, history, linguistics, and philosophy will also be of interest to AAR members.  To access the journals, please visit http://www.trial.degruyter.de/ and enter the user name “AAR” and the password “member” (both are case-sensitive). If you have any questions about subscriptions or would like to enter a subscription, please contact de Gruyter directly at ahirschfeld@degruyterny.com.

  1. Undergrad Survey: We need your input! Visit this page to see if your department/program has filled out the online questionnaire: http://www.aarweb.org/surveys/undergraduate/status.asp. If you see that the survey has not been completed, please notify your department chair that her/his participation is crucial. The chair can contact Kyle Cole, Director of College Programs, at kcole@aarweb.org or 1-404-727-1489, for more information. The survey will track our field and its change since 2000, giving us, for example, an accurate picture of the impact of 9/11. We all need data about our field to make the case for religion to our deans and presidents and to the public. Please do your part!
